Spartanburg's Legendary Drive-In Since 1946

Old-school curb service, the famous Chili-Cheese A-Plenty, and sweet Southern iced tea worth the drive.

About Us

Some restaurants open and close before anyone notices. The Beacon Drive-In has been feeding Spartanburg since 1946, and the line out front most days tells you everything you need to know. Over 6,300 reviews and a 4.2-star rating later, this place isn't coasting on nostalgia. It earns its reputation one order at a time.

The Chili-Cheese A-Plenty is the dish that made this drive-in famous, and it's still the reason first-timers become regulars. Wash it down with sweet Southern-style iced tea brewed the way it's supposed to be, and you'll understand why people make the trip from well outside Spartanburg just to eat here. Consistent portions, consistent flavor, consistent price. That's the deal, and it hasn't changed.

What really sets The Beacon apart is the experience itself. Curb hops still come to your car window, one of the last restaurants in the country where that's still how it's done. Pull up, roll down the window, and let Spartanburg's most storied drive-in take care of the rest.

What We Offer

The Beacon Drive-In offers curb service the old-fashioned way: pull into the lot and a curb hop comes to you. No app required, no speaker box, just a real person taking your order at your car window. It's a piece of American dining culture that almost no restaurant still offers, and The Beacon has kept it alive for decades.

Prefer to eat inside? Counter service at the dine-in area puts you right in the middle of the action. For those who plan ahead, online ordering is available for convenient pickup, and holiday order pickup lets you bring the Beacon experience home for special occasions.

However you order, the food comes fast and the portions are generous. Open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 9:00 or 10:00 PM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, there's almost always a good time to make the run to 255 John B White Sr Blvd in Spartanburg.

"I had the pimento cheese burger a-plenty. The a-plenty is good but I recommend adding salt and eating it with a fork. The burger was delicious. Their pimento cheese is very flavorful, so I highly recommend it. I also had the peach cobbler and a large sweet tea. The tea is famous for good reason. The cobbler is pretty good. Not the best cobbler I've ever had, I prefer my cobbler more crumbly, but their cobbler is very tasty. I will be coming back if I ever find myself in Spartanburg again."

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolute Spartanburg legend. Had lunch today at The Beacon Drive-In, and wow—what an experience. This place is pure old-school Americana in the best possible way. Loud, fast, unapologetic, and iconic. I ordered the BLT A-Plenty, and they do not mess around. Crispy bacon, stacked high, and the sides? An insane abundance of fries and onion rings. Seriously—bring an appetite. Everything was hot, fresh, and flat-out delicious. If you’ve never been, you need to go. And if you have been? You already know. Spartanburg doesn’t get more classic than this. 🔥🍔🍟"

"This is a historical landmark. We were here a year ago as well. Nothing has changed. The pros: it's a historic landmark, the food is consistent in taste, portion and price. Plenty of parking( we have an expedition towing a 30 foot camper) and it was scooter chair accessible( two customers had them). Take a moment to look at the photos and read the historic information on the wall- it's pretty neat. The gentleman that yells the food order is curt...not kind..not rude.. the people behind the counter on the line did not have time to even make small talk. The cashier was very polite and so was the gentleman pouring the tea and lemonade. Now onto the food: I had a bacon cheese burger and sweet tea. My husband had the chili cheeseburger a plenty platter with an Arnold Palmer and we also purchased a peach cobbler. The food is good. it's about the experience. My burger was seasoned nicely and had great flavor- it wasn't greasy or soggy bun type. My husband's food was similar. There is a lot of food and we ended up taking a box of left overs. The cobbler was tasty as well. Now the cons: it's dirty, not just historic dirty but not clean type of dirty. The owners need to put money into this place and start with a good cleaning. The bathrooms were not clean...Both the men's and women's.. but if you absolutely must go...then it's available. Final thoughts: They are very busy so be prepared to wait especially during peak lunch hours. This is a well respected establishment and a pillar of the community. While there- it was on Father's Day and a portion of the parking lot was closed due to a Father's count church ( I think) get together ( on the outside of the restaurant) which was really nice! It's a must stop of you love history and being a part of something that helps keep historical places alive. The food is good for what it is. I'd be sure to use the bathrooms elsewhere and bring something to wipe your table and hands down with. But, being able to eat at a historical landmark and supporting that for the next generations to come is worth the not so favorable conditions. Seriously though....put some money into fixing it up so it can be enjoyed for those generations to come 😀"

"There's a reason this place has been operating consistently for EIGHT decades. You just gotta experience it. It is a vibe unto itself. * If you love sweet tea, with or without 🍋, this is the place. Sold by the gallon, As oer AI "The Beacon Drive-In in Spartanburg, SC, claims to serve more sweet tea than any other restaurant in the U.S.A., selling between 4,000 and 12,000 gallons weekly. Their "World Famous" iced tea is known as being "Southern Style"—extremely sweet, typically served over crushed ice with lemon added." * The walk-through ordering system can stymie some people the first time. You read the menu, step up to the "caller"and place your order. Then you move down the line with your tray and collect plastic utensils, your drink, eventually your order, and then you pay. It's okay to pass in line. So if you are not ready, you will be passed. *Since 1980, so much tea, double chili-cheeses, onion 'rangs' and fries.... My first (and last) Pigs Dinner... I do not recall ever having breakfast. Today that changed. Today I had two eggs scrambled, livermush, gravy hash browns, tomato slice, and two (why two?) fluffy biscuits. Ten bucks. Nom."

"I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and a side of Mack cheese with a Coke. Service was fast. Employees were friendly. I expected a hot chicken patty but was met with a cold not warmed at all patty on my plate that made it taste bad. The Mac n cheese is full of grease. Not my cup of tea with the Mac n cheese. The coke was flat too. I had just come upon this hole in the wall restaurant and was hoping for good food. Maybe if I had gotten a burger instead my review may be different."
